Music Theory Affects Business Psychology of Everyone
July 10th, 2009
Ever since commercials have existed they have been based on the nature of psychology. Using music theory has only served to make this even more obvious.
When music is played in lively tones the general response is the tendency to make spontaneous choices. In the event of soft tones the shoppers may take more time to look and make reasonable purchases. Sentimental music may evoke the desires to stroll down memory lane and again have an effect on what decisions are made. Amazing as it may seem which music is chosen can actually rev up a business and increase revenues.
Children are often engrossed in stories that have music associated with them. It is not unusual to hear a child singing a song that has been played repetitively. The business industry is very aware and utilizes music theory. By taking a melody with just the right balance of consonance and dissonance and using this with product promotion the child is pulled in. The tune may be repeated over and over by the child and commercials. While shopping the same tune is recalled. The desired result is met when a purchase is made of the melodic product. And the product itself doesn’t even have the ability to sing any song. Hence the product has come alive!
When business promotions occur and products marketed the importance of music choice cannot be stressed enough. The psychological effects on decision making influence is greatly steeped in music theory. Businesses may go so far as hiring a well known band to represent products. The choice of music that promotes sales and sets that memory in motion is important. When the tune plays in the minds the memory recalls the recent experience that went with that tune. Even after the presentation is the tunes played can bring back psychological recall of feelings associated with the sounds. The memory of the business experience will still be intact.
What is most amazing about the affects on the psyche of the consumer is that the rationale to choose is greatly affected by advertisements. Even if the savings would be better for another brand it doesn’t matter most of the time. Once again music theory comes into play as the foundation for greater sales. And while the results are not going to be across the board they are going to be phenomenal. Possibly this could be the future for people wanting to get into the business world. Classes is music theory may become just the the right mix with courses on business.
